Common misconceptions about God and the Bible #1 - Hell is seperation from God.

A lot of well-meaning believers and false converts try to make God seem "nicer" than He is. They try to turn Him into something softer than He is. One thing you might hear them say is something like "God doesn't send anyone to hell, it's just that if you reject God in this life He honors that request and allows you to be apart from Him eternally."

Well the Bible disagrees. Here's a couple passages of the many that disprove that view:

John 3:36

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

Revelation 20:15

"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

And finally very clearly Revelation 14:10 proves that Hell is not outside the presence of God as it tells us where people in Hell are in relation to God:

"...shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb

The Lamb is Jesus, aka God the Son.

Cruelty in the bible never ceases to amaze me. god gets pissed off and drowns every living thing. What did the animals do to deserve such a cruel death? What about the newborns? Silly, really. Then every dozen or so pages, god commands someone to gather an animal, or a sibling, and senselessly slaughter them, just to make god feel better.

Then there is Lot. What a guy. "Just and Righteously" sends his virgin daughters out to be brutally raped, to spare some "angels". Then his wife gets salty about god raining fire on some cities (again, mass murder of his own people). Oh! then his daughters incestuously rape him! Awesome!

It really is one bloodfest with some good old rape, incest, and vengeance sprinkled in.
