I fucking hate arsonists. The worst three crimes, IMO, are murder, rape, and arson. These things should lead to a death sentence. Arsonists should be charged as if they were trying to murder the entire town where they set a fire.
I had been in agreement with the first two for some time at least when it’s a White victim, but you’ve given me something to think about arson.
I hadn’t really considered arson because we are very unlikely to have another “Great Chicago Fire” based on fire suppression measures and how proficient fire fighters are now.
It doesn't matter how good we are at putting out fires- the intent when setting one as an arsonist is the same: utter destruction and possibly the deaths of people. Using your logic: Doctors are pretty good at treating gunshot wounds. Does that mean that shooting someone (illegally) is any less severe an offense, because there's a chance it can be fixed? No, that's still an attempted murder. Arson is worse than shooting someone, because when setting the fires, these freaks intend to burn everything. I believe most arsonists today are paid by entities such as Blackrock; they're given instructions on where to set fires that will lead to the land being cleared. Think of the fires that ripped through California last year (or the year before?) where the path of the fires coincidentally lined up perfectly with the construction plans for a train or something.
Certain areas of the US are at extreme risk of wildfires due to a mixture of geographical conditions, and government mismanagement. If you start a wildfire on the western half of the cascades, you are trying to kill 1,000s of people at least.
