Remedy for persistent cough

submitted by AugustineOfHippo2 to AskGoats 11 monthsJul 15, 2024 10:08:22 ago (+5/-0)     (AskGoats)

Man, I have had a cough for about 10 days now. Doctor appt coming up, but I'm afraid all they will do is push antibiotics or other junk.
It's really only in my vocal chord area, and isn't horrible, I have been dosing on vit C and always have a cup of water and some Ricola cough drops and that seems to keep it at bay.
You guys have any good remedies for coughs?

Stay away from air-conditioning for starters

Is it just the cough you want to suppress?

If so, tea brewed from cherry bark will do the trick.

Recommend wild harvested or organic since cherries are typically loaded with pesticides.

A pipe load of rabbit tobacco will dry a persistently wet cough.

Whiskey, honey, lemon juice, peppermint candy(with peppermint oil not artificial flavoring).

Edit to add, my wife's family would boil an onion then mix sugar in with the onion juice and sip it. It works very well but I don't want the extra sugar. And it's very hard to take without it.

So long as you don't do it all the time a little sugar for curatives is fine.

Smoke or smudge some dried mullein leaf

Spoonful of natural, unprocessed honey, four times a day.

It's a natural antimicrobial.

Most important questions to answer...

- Do you have a fever?
- Is the cough productive, and if so what color is the sputum? - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sputum

No fever or other symptoms. Only a cough. The only thing I cough up is mucus, no sputum.

If what you are coughing up is NOT yellow-green-brown-rust colored, then it could be allergy or something irritating.

Monitor your body temp, drink fluids, vitamin C, vitamin D (sunshine exposure), and perhaps do some deep cleaning of areas of the home you frequent. 100% change the air-filter on your heating/air condition system.

What is this magical potion you describe?

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 2 points 11 monthsJul 15, 2024 11:58:06 ago (+2/-0)

Liquid codeine. It'll put your ass on the grass and your dick in the dirt.

Codeine cough syzzrup mixed with rot gut vodka is a good start.

Fasting for three days with electrolytes would likely fix it right up.

If you developed a cough, it’s likely a sign of poor diet or nutritional deficiency. Are you taking D3 with K2 and Vitamin A? You only started taking vitamin C after developing a cough? It should be taken regularly with all other supplements.

Wouldn't hurt to take zinc too.

If you dont feel like shit as well. It is probably allergies. Buy a cheap humidifier for your bedroom and start taking butterbur. Should clear up in 3 days.

Start taking NAC regularly start with two a day until the coughing clears, then one a day from now on. It helps reduce inflammation in your lungs but it takes time and works if you regularly take it.

Grate an entire ginger root and soak it a bowl of hot water. You can now use that ginger solution to mix a few spoonfuls into your tea, according to how much ginger you can handle.

Add local honey, or have a spoonful before you drink your fresh ginger tea.

You got covid. Wait it out and you'll be fine. Nyquil at night if needed so you can stop coughing long enough to get some sleep.
