What a week it has been. And now it is Friday. A damned good day to get together with friends and make some music. A very fine evening to hold us a Friday Night Guitar Thread. Ya'll are welcome. Any instrument, any skill level. Lets sit back and listen or get up and jam, and dance and sing. Why not?

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Upgoat.net go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

This should impress you AND be something you enjoy...

Rush - Tom Sawyer (EH G; J K, TB P & B)

It's not new but it's seldom shared and a pretty good song to jam out to.

That sounds like Rush to a 'T'. Like perfection. Impressive.

I had a bit of help with that one but it came out okay.

Hello again everyone. Hope you're all doing well. I had an especially eventful week.

My buddy Chris came over earlier this week and we were sitting out on my nice big front porch having a beer and talking when we somehow decided to write a song about one of the subjects we were discussing.

If you listen closely you just might notice that there is something a little bit different than all of the other songs that we have written, I don't know if anybody will notice what it is but it will be interesting to find out.

Here is a recording of us playing the song we wrote out on my front porch, Oh Lord, Wont You Save Us

After we played that on the porch and listened to it, Chris suggested we go out back into the studio, so we did. Lord Wont You Save US

You don't have to listen to both, they are the same song, just a little bit different different sound. I am partial to the one on the porch, but Chris likes the studio version.

Choose one and enjoy.

It's not you, it's me. My 'net is doing its thing. I keep checking Starlink but they deny my address every time when I check for service in my area. So, I'm still fucked.

Maybe you can hear it at this link

No. It won't even start playing after a full minute of waiting.

There are a ton of tourists up for the weekend. They're chewing through my bandwidth. I'd complain but the village would not, could not, exist without tourism. Rangeley has relied on tourism since day one. There was logging but the lake area has been a tourist town since it was incorporated. There was a narrow gauge railway that brought in hunters, fishers, and campers. That line is long since closed but that's how the town got started.

I'll listen in a few minutes, I hope. I have people here.

I just learned something awesome.

I don't have to worry about Starlink. They're running fiber right by my house (well, by the road) near the end of summer. I'll be able to pay them to tie into the fiber as it passes my house.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 27, 2024 20:39:46 ago (+1/-0)

Hell yeah, you will running at the speed of light!

That is awesome!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 9 monthsJul 27, 2024 20:43:17 ago (+1/-0)

LOL Now I have to figure out what to do with my Starlink equipment.

Ah well...

Maybe I should keep Starlink around just in case fiber goes out - which it will - when the power is out.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 27, 2024 21:02:29 ago (+1/-0)

I thought you were still waiting on starlink to serve your area

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 9 monthsJul 27, 2024 22:39:34 ago (+1/-0)

I am. It's still not available when I check my address. It should be 'soon', from what I've been told.

Fiber will go out every time the mains power goes out. I could power my end, the router, but not the whole system. So, any outage is going to take the internet out with it.

damn that sucks

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 5 points 9 monthsJul 26, 2024 21:04:42 ago (+5/-0)

It's okay. I can listen later or tomorrow.

[ - ] Peleg 1 point 9 monthsJul 27, 2024 09:05:20 ago (+1/-0)

Sounds like you two are spreading the gospel and gonorrhea.

Maybe you and the hooker will have that church someday. Passing the collection plate will probably work out a lot better than "just leave the money on the night stand".

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 27, 2024 14:29:14 ago (+1/-0)

That is a completely fictitious tale in that there song. As my friend and I were talking about the church being built next door to the lingerie shop, and the hookers, or models, hanging out in front of the lingerie shop on lawn chairs calling out to potential customers and came up with the story LoL

I got to get together with my buddy Verle this week too, along with Chris, and jammed. I love the time I get to spend making music with my friends. It is some of the most favorite times of my life.

Titties and Beer

Back when I was single my brother and cousins and I would gather at a cousin's house once a week to jam. It was the absolute best thing ever. I even bought a station wagon just for the purpose of hauling my equipment. If it was raining my stuff would get wet in the back of my truck. The station wagon fixed that.
Enjoy those times while you have them. For everything changes. My one cousin died. My brother is disabled and can't hardly leave his house now, and our other cousin has lost his mind. He is jabbed and boosted to the max and waiting for daddy government to save him. Hard to believe and hard to accept. He was older than me. You know, the cool older cousin that you grew up admiring and wanting to be "just like him".
No more music. No more family get togethers.
Cherish every moment, dude. Before it's gone.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 27, 2024 14:01:29 ago (+1/-0)

thanks for the reminder, I do cherish it.

sorry to hear about your cousin and brother.
