It’s like Call of Duty. All about the multiplayer and the campaign is different in each game. Yeah Q4 is related to Q2 but that wasn’t an id software game. Q2 is my favorite but there’s still a bunch of dudes playing Q3A to this day.

To answer OP's question, yes Quake 2 should've had a different title. It's a fine game but more of a tech demo than an intricately well-designed FPS. The single player campaign is fairly boring and repetitive. Basically a prelude to what id software really wanted to do with Quake 3 being multiplayer-focused.

A proper sequel to the original Quake would've been cool. John Romero pushed out a turd with Daikatana but at least he had the ambition to take a risk and do something different.

Fuck, I miss the 90s.

PC gaming was cool. Movies were cool. Music was mostly cool, even if MTV and pop culture were still retarded. Internet wasn't taken over by faggotry yet. No smart phones to turn everyone into zombies. Riding bikes with friends was fun. You weren't inundated with fake and gay kikery 24/7, even if it was still everywhere.

Pre-9/11 America was a good time.
