It’s more than I make. Plus, $85K in the Bronx is like $150K in Manhattan. There are pockets of wealth in the Bronx, but it is by far the poorest boro, overall.

EDIT: When you hear people grousing about needing to make $120K to live in NYC, there are several factors to consider.

1. They probably mean to live in MANHATTAN and high-demand neighborhoods in Western Brooklyn like Williamsburg, Bushwick, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights and Carroll Gardens. When you get away from Manhattan and those trendy neighborhoods, things are still expensive but more affordable.

2. Do they mean $120K as the single income for a family of four? Because then I agree: even in the outer boros it will be tough. But if both the man and wife work and each makes like over $70K, they should be able to make it in the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and parts of Brooklyn OK.

3. Here is where most of the fucking whining comes from: How much do they go out? Of course if you go out for fine dining every week and do pancakes and mimosas for brunch every Sunday, you’re going to spend $400-$500 right there that can go to rent or a mortgage. Most of these whiny types are spoiled little shits trying to emulate the excess of their boomer parents and wonder why they have no savings or house at 40. A lot of the fucking whiners are little transplant scenesters who want to live the life of Debbie Harry and Madonna in the early 80’s going every night to bars and clubs like little whores or doing fine dining all of the time like Sex and the City.
