Just do it. I start my day with coffee and a to do list. No tv, no phone. I try to map out my time and tasks. Then I enjoy my coffee and shitpost on voat. After I'm done I just do it. I try to break it up into small tasks. I'm working on my truck today. Replacing O2 sensors. I started by loosening the lug nuts on the wheel that I need to remove. I break my tasks up into small, easy steps. It helps me wrap my head around the long hard tasks that life requires.

Getting discipline in your life can be incredibly rewarding. I've been focusing on just that. I've done more in the last 90 days than I have in the past year. Good luck.

On top of this, making lists helps. Gives you a direction, a goal; to mark off parts of that list.

Discipline is something you need to practice. Like weight lifting you can't go straight to using all of it at once.

But how do I get discipline? I feel like a lazy sack of worthless Shit and its killing me mentally and ruining my life

Useful advice.

Let me think about it and I'll get back with you on it later.

[ - ] anon 1113699 5 points 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 10:40:17 ago (+5/-0)

Break your tasks down into smaller and smaller tasks until you get to the point that you are able to take them on, and finish them. Call it a win and move on to slightly larger tasks, etc. etc.

As you grow to understand that you are able to complete seemingly insurmountable tasks the reluctance to do so will diminish.

Unless you're just some lazy, useless fuck who can't do anything because "I don't feel like it". In which case just do us all a favor and jump off a bridge.

[ - ] anon 3534911 2 points 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 11:33:40 ago (+2/-0)

I've found that this is the best approach.

Break a big task into a bunch of smaller ones. Set milestones and rewards. Make sure they're small enough that you'll actually do them.

Usually, it only takes accomplishing a few before you gain momentum and quickly knock out the rest.

Discipline comes from doing. But you won't start doing unless you want to. It's the old Catch 22.

Hmmm, what to do what to do?

I don't know you nor your history. But if you want some advice then I suggest that you join a martial art club. But it has to be one that has high standards and expectations for the students. Lots of clubs will give you a Black Belt in X years just for showing up, and those are a waste of your time and money. You want, correction, you need a club that will fail your ass if you are not constantly giving 100%. This will give you the drive and self discipline you desire, assuming you stick with it.

The same can be done with any other activity that requires dedication and hard work to become good at. But martial arts are especially good because often the guy running the place knows more about motivation than your average piano teacher. It also helps having a true bad ass that you can look up to for inspiration.

But it's only of value if it's hard and you do it. All the best.

Amphetamines help. Though it can be tough to find Adderall or Concerta in stock because the feds decide how much is going to be manufactured for the year.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 14:39:59 ago (+0/-0)

ask any musician, or someone studying online for a degree, they all can git Adderall

[ - ] Spaceman84 0 points 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 23:16:10 ago (+0/-0)

Finding it at a local pharmacy is the issue.

[ - ] anon 1043285 4 points 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 09:26:12 ago (+4/-0)

A little self-disgust helps. Try this: next time you zone out on some trivial bullshit like staring a screen, imagine you're standing in front of you, watching you procrastinate. Is that fuckin slob who you are? That waste of carbon squandering the gift of life? No. Then get up and do something. Do this consistently and you scare yourself into not being who you don't want to be.

Do you procrastinate because you're worried you won't do as good a job as you think you should do? You might be a perfectionist.

Daily lists on a whiteboard.

Every morning, erase yesterday's list, and write today's list. Anything that wasn't completed yeaterday, you still erase, but you rewrite it on today's list. Rank the items on the list based on priority and the order you will do them in. Then, start doing things on the list, beginning with something necessary, but simple.

Examples of simple starting activities that will help you build productive momentum are...

Sweep the kitchen.
Vacuum one room.
Load the dishwasher.
Start a load of laundry.
Prune a tree or bush.
Dog? Walk it.
Bird feeder? Fill it.
Plants? Water them.
Tidy up (organize) one room.
...you get the idea. Start small and simple to build momentum, then move on to other bigger things.

Repeat this every day. Also, turn on some fun music, and put your fucking phone down.

Dumbest thing I ever found but it works. Think of the thing you want to do, then hold your breath until you get up and start doing it. It takes about 3 seconds.

Do not tell people you will do a personal goal just tell them when it is done

Read books about time management and goal setting

Keep list to collect goals, categorize them, batch them, make an environment to achieve the batch, track your daily energy. Batch tasks you hate together.

Make SMART goals

Do not tell people you will do a personal goal just tell them when it is done

I try to do this but by the time I'm finished with the project people aren't around to tell them about it because they think I'm a lazy fuck who does nothing.

person: "whatcha doing today?" me: "oh not much..." person: "fucking lazy prick"

Well I'd tell you but they say I can't tell anyone I'm working on it until I'm done! So now everyone hates me and won't come around to see all the neat things I've created.

Of course when I tell them what I'm working on they have no clue what I'm talking about so they don't hang around anyways so... I need less retarded friends.

[ - ] albatrosv15 2 points 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 10:20:03 ago (+2/-0)

Good comments. I'll add something specific.
Whenever i'm too lazy to do something on that day and think i will do that tomorrow, i'll do the following trick. I'll start doing it without actually thinking i will end the task. I will first prepare the tools, the materials and put them in place so that next day i can start actually doing it. Sometimes i will complete the task, sometimes not. When not, then at least i will be thinking about next steps for the next day, which sometimes is a better choice, because i can find some better ways how to do the task.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 1 point 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 14:41:14 ago (+1/-0)

I do that too. 'Just push the mower to the edge of the grass, you can mow tomorrrow'. 20 minutes later, it's mowed.

I make lists of things I need to do. Some small, some things that will take days or weeks. Long tasks, I break into day parts so I can see the rate that it’s being whittled down. It’s very satisfying to highlight a task off the list once it’s done.

If I don’t get to something, I feel like a nigger. But at least I’m moving.

Cutting all the tree stumps level to the ground so I can mow over them, is the never ending task that’s been on my list for 15 years.

Let me help you with your tree stump problem:

This easy method can take 6 months to a year but it's not 15 years doing nothing. Cut groves in the stump and pour epson salt in it.

Fire ring method:

The other method costs more money: rent a stump grinder

Worst method hire someone to grind or remove the stump.

Thanks. I’ve got oak wilt on my property. It kills oaks of all kinds. I’ve cut down about 400 oaks on my land. Some were probably 500 years old.

I don’t want to burn or salt the stump because often a dead stump of a mature oak will begin to grow a new oak. They grow fast as they can use the large root system of the tree that died. So I just want to cut the stump flush to the ground, and then wait and see if I get a new tree. So far…I guess I have 150 stumps still to cut. It’s shitty work.

Interestingly, I’ve found the busier I am, the more productive I want to be.

When I am the most busy, I try to milk it. When I have down time, I try to milk that. The goal is a steady dopamine stream be it work or leisure.

Structure helps. My structure is my career, business, and school.

Shame yourself constantly. 'YOU FAT LAZY FUCK, MOW THE FUCKIN LAWN!'

[ - ] anon 2597260 1 point 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 13:59:45 ago (+1/-0)

I started thanking past me for doing things I didn't have the time or energy to do before.

After doing that for a while I started to think hey you know what, this task sucks but I bet future man will think it sucks too. I'll be he'll be grateful it's done. And then I do it as a favor to him, who just happens to be me a day, a week, or a month from now.

It works because it is often easier to say yes to others or do favors for others than it is to do for yourself.

[ - ] anon 1499238 1 point 8 monthsAug 9, 2024 13:39:13 ago (+1/-0)

The pomodoro technique works for me on stuff I don't like to do.
Work on it for a short time 25 minutes and put all your focus to the task.
Take a 5 minute break. Do another 25 minutes and take a 15 minute break.
Keep repeating until the task is done.

Apparently this is what wagies do all day, albeit with longer timeintervals and less breaks.

If you're distracting yourself with a screen, the perpetual motion of the screen is what's addictive, not the content.
