Regarding the statue, Hanuman was one of the heroes in the Indian Ramayana. There are reasons to believe he actually existed. The main one is that he led the monkey-people in constructing a bridge from India to Sri Lanka. It's called Rama's bride in India and Adam's Bridge by the British. It's visible on Google Earth.
