I dont think there were any mass extinctions during this period. There was a severe ice age which drove the early europeans south to “refugia” in places like spain and italy for a few thousand years.

These folks made a good living off of mamoth hunting for a long time. Some were exceedingly tall. They had art but they werent civilzed.
