It's been more than a few years but in my youth I did a fair amount of hiking in the wilds of New Zealand and the number of individuals and small groups that were living out in wild never ceased to astound me. I remember one group in particular that consisted of one middle aged guy and a half dozon or so young to middle aged women. Apparently he was a prophet of sorts and would collect these 'lost' women from small towns and then head out to the mountains to preach to them and presumably fuck his brains out. The locals called the group "John and his does" (as in the plural of doe) which gave me a chuckle.

NZ is possibly one of the few places in the civilized world that you can still do this stuff without drawing attention to yourself.

I'm more interested in why a bunch of New Zealand backwoods pig hunters would be keeping a look out for a family of hikers evading a drug addict? Seriously, what're the odds that of the dozens of people those hunters may stumble across on their hunts, they both photograph and remember a father with three kids, even going so far as to reporting them to the media and police? What are the odds of that? Then again, these people gave up their firearms because a couple of hajji's got capped and then submitted to receiving a nano-biological weapons agent mislabeled as a vaccine, so anything's possible.

It's remote private property way off the beaten track. These hunters could go 20 years out every weekend and maybe see a single person/ group out there - that would absolutely stop and talk and introduce themselves.

Yea, not unusual to have poachers hunting in these places - so anyone with permission from the landowner would definitely be aware from the owner if another group is likely to be anywhere in the vicinity.

Nope, some of these back high country places are so remote there is no one around - nearest small population/ town a couple of hours away by road after a half day hike into the bush - you simply dont 'come across dozens of people in these areas' - these places are not tourist walking spots and even if you did - the typical courtesy is too engage in a small conversation rather than completely ignore the only other people around for hours and hours (not that it never happens but that alone would trigger many outdoors/ hunter folk here in nz).Esp seeing three young kids and a father who have been all over msm media here in nz as 'wanted for questioning after running off with his kids'
