According to Rod's Wikipedia page, and his brother's page, he was a liberal and his brother, Robert, was a conservative. Rod smoked 3 to 4 packs of cigarettes daily, and he died at the age of 50 (whereas Robert lived until the age of 92).

Aside from being familiar with the Twilight Zone, I never really knew much else about Rod Serling. Before looking him up I did learn some time ago that each episode began as voice recording that he would later put down on paper and turn into an episode. That always struck me as a unique way to get an episode from an idea to a video production.
