I haven't seen the source material on this but it's going around. Apparently we're going to put them in crystals. It offers some chance of redemption while keeping them out of our face. That's what I gleaned from it so far
Crystals are believed to have been massive data storage devices by people who study ancient cultures. There's still a lot we don't know about crystalline structure and carbon bonds.
The whole "storage in crystals" thing is a reference to storing them where they can't hurt themselves but can still learn. It's kind of like imprisoning someone in their house.
