I'm working on a theory that these emotional displays are attempts to get back inside the big tent.

It's an invitation to engage emotionally in the hope that the right winger viewing the outburst will also be a viewer when the leftist walks it back. And given that the right wing is more likely to practice classical virtues... forgiveness and rehabilitation.

I'm still working on it tho... I just don't like seeing salt-mining being forced on me as a good thing with such obvious repetition.
