Title could be clearer.

The miners are not "trapped". They are actually mining the site, which is closed, so they are illegally mining, and free to leave at any time.

The access points are blocked, making supplies impossible to get into the mine, still not trapping anyone inside. Some (article says 3) have left the mine, and reported a bunch still inside.

Now, (((somebody))) could be forcing them to continue working, and without the supplies, these miners could be facing some big problems in the near term.

It's a mixed bag. These are old gold mines, probably not worth anything, otherwise why wouldn't the government want to mine? But mining illegally also sets up the miners to disaster if there is a collapse, and then they will cry to mammy government to rescue them. I doubt any of these illegal miners are using health and safety codes as they work LOL.

It is similar to when junkies take over derelict buildings and the governments want them out, but the junkies don't usually tear down walls and structural materials to get a fix.

In the end, the government is most likely going to held liable for any deaths, and rather than showing permission for the mining, starving out the miners is the better answer.

Ignoring the question of whether this is a just means for thwarting illegal mining, I just want to give everyone a really dark thought for their Thursday afternoon.

The article says they are already facing scarce food.

Pretty soon, the scene in that mine is going to become a living hell. They will turn to eating each other. It's a nigger Donner party. They are going to start deciding who to kill and eat, in the dark. Nobody coming to help. You're going to die anyway. It's a matter of being an eater or being eaten, until you're the last one, at which point you're to starve, all alone, in the dark. An oubliette where the door won't be opened and no light shines through.
