Guy kills himself and his heart goes to another guy, the second guy writes to the family, eventually marries the widow of the first guy, and then also kills himself... Weird!

Maybe somewhat, but there's definitely elite mother fuckers having hearts harvested from children transplanted into their busted ass body. Not what I said...

Souls are unique and specific to an individual body. The heart must specifically have some unknown ability to carry emotions & behaviors. So transplanting the heart is synonymous to taking a hard drive from one computer and placing it into another. some code is left behind in the heart. So the heart's primary job is to pump blood, buy maybe it houses and distributes hormones into the body...
