when I used to work in NYC I would just wear a flannel shirt when it was in the 40s. In Florida I dress like its a survival situation.

to be fair though I just went through a summer of 'feels like' 105. heat + humidity

This week it's 68/46, with 46 being the average winter low. 76 is the average summer high. Least extreme climate in the US.

I don't know what that is that they're wearing, but, I want one!

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 6 monthsDec 3, 2024 11:46:48 ago (+1/-0)

I'm sitting out the back right now.

It's windy but bearable.

Then again I haven't lived here in over 20 years.

My bloods thicker than a politicians lies.

someone just showed me handwarmers. they look like teabags you put in your pocket. I had never seen them before. they work like a champ!

[ - ] shitface9000 1 point 6 monthsDec 3, 2024 12:54:44 ago (+1/-0)

they also make toe warmers

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 6 monthsDec 4, 2024 14:05:40 ago (+1/-0)

I used to use them in socks and my jacket in the dead of winter snow.

Confusious say: Unfrozen hands and feet go a longer way

Double up on socks if your toes stay cold. Sticking handwarmers in your shoes is not advised.

I would just wear a flannel shirt when it was in the 40s.

That was me the other day. Kept getting weird looks from the locals.

Kept looking down to see if my dick was hanging out.

I've seen -20 and 120 here over the years. It's usually around -5 to 110, but it def gets up there.

Was working on the garage roof near the end of summer. I decided to test my new laser temp thingus, 85f outside, rooftop was 173f. God only knows how hot it was when I was up there and it was 110 outside earlier in the summer.

Went to Wisconsin and Michigan for Thanksgiving. Snowy, windy cold bullshit. One Georgia summer broke my cold tolerance...sucks.

It's the humidity that makes it feel much colder. 40 in NYC and 40 in Florida is like the difference between looking at a cold river and swimming in the cold river.

It got down to 34 last night by us (N FL) so there was frost on the ground. That's the closest we get to having snow.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 2 points 6 monthsDec 3, 2024 13:12:26 ago (+2/-0)

Also in N FL, it's definitely been colder than that here. It's kind of odd to get those temps in fall though. I told my wife a couple weeks ago that we may get snow this winter. I've got a better track record than those lying liars that lie on the weather channel, so we'll see if that holds up. Supposed to be colder tomorrow.

Decades ago we did get snow flurries in Columbia County, I was a kid at the time so that was the best day ever. The last few years we had a few high-20s nights, I ran a heat lamp out to the chicken coop and put up tarp since mine was built with ventilation in mind. But so far my kids have only seen crunchy frost and frozen puddles. I would love for them to see a snowfall like I did.

The cold feels different down here than it does in the north east, or maybe I'm just not 22 anymore. My heaters broken, taking a shower yesterday morning was a god damn spiritual journey. I went through the stages of grief in about ten minutes trying to convince myself that I didn't need to shower. When that hot water hit me I was fuckin reborn anew.

just put some baby powder on the bits and brush yo teef!

[ - ] con77 [op] 0 points 6 monthsDec 3, 2024 13:28:31 ago (+0/-0)

denial, bargaining, grief, acceptance
I have a gas water heater. it goes from cold to scalding in about 5.2 seconds. on the bright side I can stay in there for 45 minutes and not run out of hot water.

[ - ] oyveyo 0 points 6 monthsDec 3, 2024 16:08:47 ago (+0/-0)

There's a picture out there somewhere that shows a shower dial... it has "Icy death" from left to center, "Lava" from right to center, and in the middle is a tiny sliver labelled "Just Right".

It expensive, but what you need is a thermostatic mixer. You set the temp with one knob and the flow with the other knob, and it maintains the perfect temperature all the time. You can set it and forget it; you just step in the shower and turn on the flow and you're good to go. The downside is, you won't get a warning that the hot water is running low, it will just instantly go from "ahhh" to "AHHHH!"

[ - ] con77 [op] 2 points 6 monthsDec 3, 2024 12:39:11 ago (+2/-0)

[ - ] iSnark 1 point 6 monthsDec 3, 2024 14:48:33 ago (+1/-0)

Truth!

When I was in college, One winter, in the middle of winter, Wearing a T-Shirt and a Jean jacket over it, a group of us Fraternity Brothers thought it would be fun to go out and play football in the snow. About 15 of us went out an spent about an hour and some change playing football in the snow, snowflakes the size of quarter falling around us. A couple of days ago it was 46 degrees outside, and I was like fuck it, I'm staying in! Getting Old Sucks:

Exposure to prolonged humid heat fucks cold tolerance.
