Pear Anise Cranberry Sauce - NO Sugar!

submitted by TheSimulacra to Recipes 4 monthsDec 13, 2024 14:16:36 ago (+7/-0)     (Recipes)

My family requests this every holiday and will eat it alone for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients.
4-6 bags cranberries.
1 juiced orange per bag
1 Bosc pear per bag
2 cups honey.
Cinnamon stick
*Anise seed* tsp.

Put honey, oj, cinnamon stick and anise seed in very large pot. Add cranberries and cook med hi. While cranberries are going peel pears and cut into bite size chunks. Add pears near the end of the process. I find they are best if some of the crispness can remain. Cook until berries are all popped. Maybe 20-30 min tops.

Other pears work, but the crunchier they are at the start the better.

Enjoy goats!

NO Sugar!
2 cups honey.

Yeah, about that ...

Honey = fructose/glucose = sugar. By volume it's more calorically dense than cane sugar. Not saying this isn't tasty ... just don't kid yourself into thinking what you are eating is remotely low sugar or low calorie.

You should be able to get away with less, but yes that’s a lot of honey! Cranberries are pretty freaking tart.

Does sound good. I might give it a go for Christmas.

This recipe reeks of anise and Judaism

It actually smells quite wonderful. Nothing like a dirty jew.

How would you describe the smell of a 'dirty jew'?

no sugar

Perhaps not, but there is salt in the wound.

Salt in your wound?

Just a play on words. You highlight the absence of sugar in the recipe as a health benefit, and the user in the link believed he was eating dried fruit to be healthier when its primary ingredient was pure sugar. The fact that your post was slightly after his would be, if he read it, “salt in his wound.”
