Back in the 80's everybody had a phone like that with 100 feet of fucking cord. lol When the push button ones came in we thought we were living in the future.

These phones were literally bulletproof.
I shot one with a .22lr from across the room.
The bullet bounced off the lower left of the body of the phone and lodged into the wall.

Yep , the secret was to hit with a bit of sideways so contact was made with the handpiece to the body just before the button got pressed but occasionally you would lose grip and drop the handpiece and the person on the other end of the line would thi k you had slammed them.

If you did it right the person on the other end of the call could hear the phone being slammed. They knew that they had pissed you off.

Haaa! I told an employer (dock and seawall builder in St Pete) that I quit.that I was on my way to his office. And that he had BETTER have a check waiting for me! I slammed the payphone so hard that the handpiece broke!

People at the 7/11 looked at me like a gorilla got loose.

When i got to the office the owner, his wife/bookeeper, and the salesman had evacuated the office.

The foreman, who was friendly to me, was waiting out front with a check in his hand ✋️

I used to handle 200lb dock poles by myself all day. In the Florida sun.
