An early Christmas gift for my Goats. (in comments)

Hear me out for a second, it's worth it.

A monarch butterfly will fly about 3000 miles in it's lifetime. During this period they will 'shed' their entire body by building a chrysalis around itself, where it undergoes natures most incredible transformation: A near complete chemical breakdown of their bodies. (Some brain cells, which control major muscle function seem to be the only thing to stay, but removal of these cells did not affect memory).

The 'memory' is where things get wild. Scientists place two nectars out for captive butterflys. They are color coded in colors the butterfly can recognize and one is bitter. Naturally, the butterflys try the bitter nectar only once and feed only from the sweet nectar afterwards.

Wildness: After their chemical transformation, the butterflys remember. (how?!)

Our science has no explanation for the butterfly. I've seen a butterfly tease a badger for solid minute, and fly with astonishing acrobatic grace.

It exhibits curiosity and definitely has memory, even after complete cellular conversion! From a creature with a brain the size of a pinhead.

Why is this a gift? Our consciousness is not here in our little grey matter brains. (If you wanted to be technical, Science hypothesizes that brains may be quantum antennas).

No one would even acknowledge the existence of non physical dimensions until fairly recently. And in front of our faces we have proof.

We're closer to God than most people think, and the example of the butterfly I hope, is a bolster to your faith.

Merry Christmas Goats

That's the nature boner I needed. Sorta relapsed and went on an angry spiritual tirade to family yesterday

Similar with the rice experiment. Emotion/ intent can affect reality.

I think Emoto is a little crazy. No one can replicate his water or ice experiments.

closer to God than most people think
Absolutely part of God, we already knew that - but an infinitesimal fraction of God, nonetheless.

I like to remind people that mankind only figured out powered flight about 100 years ago. We are not as knowledgeable as some might proclaim. Likely our pool of knowledge is barely even the tip of a giant iceberg of discovery the universe has yet to offer.
A thinking person might come to the conclusion that there is no god simply because he has not been shown solid proof.

A smarter person would realize there is a much greater chance of the supernatural existing than not.

An atheist and the pope both have one thing in common….., blind ignorance.
Amen.

I really think man only 'rediscovered flight.
Plenty of glyphs / ancient writings etc suggest flight was known attained previously.
Plus, those little inca gold statuettes things or toys that resemble a space shuttle were replicated into larger sized craft with the exact same proportions etc on some sci-fi or ancient aliens crap and actually glide, albeit the profile wasn't perfect.

We figured out flight only 100 years ago.
Yet we (specifically white people) figured out the Cosmos and the nature of reality by pure philosophical reasoning, like 3000 years ago.

So are we going forward or backwards?
I’d say we degenerated from concepts, to things.

Even in your 100 year reference, we went from inventing flight to the first nuclear bomb in 50 years
But only from the nuclear bomb, to wires, connecting everything, and the iPhone in the 80 years after that.
Again, I’d say, if we’re not actually going backwards, the last century of “progress” it just deceleration.

Monarchs don't travel thousands of miles.
They just travel a few hundred. Then they lay eggs and die and the next caterpiller takes on the next leg of the journey.

The amazing thing here being, that no single Monarch has ever completed a full migration, yet, instinctually it knows where to go.

Correct. I've clarified my writing. The important point stands, that the chrysalis transformation carries a host of memories, despite a complete cellular chemical reformation. The additional ability to complete a 4500km migratory route across multiple generations is quite another puzzle as well. .5 gram insect..

It doesn't carry any memories.
Just instincts.

There is no "chemical reformation" The cells just stop being "this organ" and start being "that organ".
But, the cells and dna are never changed.
And this is how instincts survive transformation.

Fuck.. I don’t know if that’s true, but it makes sense

[ - ] QuestionEverything [op] 0 points 4 monthsDec 17, 2024 08:43:23 ago (+0/-0)

You're wrong.

The Monarch quite positively does have memories. We've done extensive testing on this aspect of butterflys. The bitter nectar is one of many tests they used to verify this. Oner of the first parallel experiments was switching up the colors with control groups. results verified memory as well.

The cells are absolutely melted down and reformed. They literally turn into an amniotic fluid and then rebuild the entire body with NEW cells. (minus a few major muscle cells, which turns out, don't need to be replaced).

The DNA does not change.

FYI: We chose the monarch to be the first animal to map DNA. There's no peculiar genes which suggest they give this animal the abilities it possesses.

Memories are not instinct.

I never said "memories are instinct"
Apart from that, I don't think you actually did anything. So why are you saying "we"?

Also look up the crow facial recognition experiment. They remembered bad guys for generations.
