It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - except it isn't. Next week will be our annual Christmas thread! Still, you can share any music you made in this thread - regardless of the holiday! So, it's time for the Friday Night Guitar Thread!

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should upgoat go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @Sleazy or myself).

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Hello and welcome to another Friday Night Guitar Thread! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

Note: Next week will be our annual Christmas thread. Be there or be square!

I don't have anything new and I feel like shit. As such...

Rush - Tom Sawyer (EH G; J K, TB P & B)

Rock on, Goats! Rock on!

I always air drum along when I hear that song. This sounds great! Hell yeah!

I love Rush, sort of...

For a band so full of skill, they sure did make a lot of mediocre music. They have some brilliant hits, but a shallow catalog from my view.

Man, ESPN is killing all the streams tonight. It's a big game - Irish vs Hoosiers, start of the playoffs.

I kind of lost the plot with them after like 85, but I love everything they did before that

They had suck amazing skill in the band. Yet, they didn't do all that much with it.

They also spent too long in their 'expirimental' phase. Many bands hit that phase and die out, so they're not alone in that. Some manage to put things back together after that. For example, the Grateful Dead had a few albums in the middle that were just shitty. They kind of came back but not completely. Their newer stuff had some good stuff mixed in, but a bunch of it was just plain shit.

Yeah. All band will put out a shitty album if they make enough of them

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 21:08:43 ago (+3/-0)

Some put out a few in a row and never recover.

I'm not sure how they manage to make an entire album without at least one solid song on it. I mean, you've got 9 to 16 chances to get at least one good song!

Too many drugs I think.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 21:47:33 ago (+2/-0)

Yeah usually one bad record is enough to put a band on thin ice with the record labels

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 21:49:49 ago (+2/-0)

Unless they're huge and morons buy the albums just because they're new albums.

Well, this is probably less true today. I don't think anyone buys albums anymore, unless they're just glorified playlists that they pay to access.

Nobody really owns music these days.

Well, almost nobody... There's still a few of us who buy music in physical form.

[ - ] Sleazy 2 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 21:51:31 ago (+2/-0)

Yeah it's much worse these days

That game sucks. 20-3 Irish (nigger coach. Murica.) Hoosiers better get going, time is short.

Did you see that commercial for A Complete Unknown movie about Dylan. Playing on Christmas only. I wonder if it's about Like A Rolling Stone since that's part of the song.

ND won, which pleases me.

I think it is a biopic about his life in general, or at least his career. He puts on a great show but not in terms of fluff and showy antics. He's best seen in small venues, preferably seating no more than a thousand or two. Even smaller is better.

Damn that is so good. You play any Triump? Fight the Good Fight, Lay it on the Line, Magic Power. They remind me of Rush. Great guitar music.

Hmm... I have but I forget the name of the song at the moment. I know I've been in a band that covered one of their songs. It was just one song and it's the only real time I ever paid them all that much attention.

I want to say that was early 80s. I was in college for my undergrad work. It was early on so I'm guessing this was way back in 1981.

[ - ] ChatGPT 3 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 22:17:12 ago (+3/-0)

It was probably one of the three I mentioned. That's the only 3 I ever heard on the radio. They played the fuck outta them.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 2 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 22:19:27 ago (+2/-0)

For the life of me, I can't recall what it was. I know the name. I recall playing them. I even recall who I was with at the time. Damned if I can't recall the name or how to play it.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 22:36:16 ago (+2/-0)

They were a stadium rock band. Filled arenas. Watching video of them now. Man that guitar guy was great. Sang and played flawlessly. I don't think they made it to MTV. Like a lot of 70's bands did.

I saw Paradise by the Dashboard Lights like a million times on MTV but I don't recall seeing any Triumph.

They've largely slipped my memory. I haven't got a clue. I'd refresh my knowledge but that's not really in the cards today.

[ - ] Sleazy 1 point 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 22:35:45 ago (+1/-0)

Triumph was great!

[ - ] Sleazy 5 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 20:33:55 ago (+5/-0)

Hey there. Chris and I jammed out a Niel Young song Ohio

[ - ] TheRealBuddha [op] 3 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 20:34:31 ago (+3/-0)

Listening now. That's a fun song to play, there's lots of room for improv and just plain jamming out.

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 5 monthsDec 20, 2024 21:49:29 ago (+2/-0)

That spelling of Neil looks wierd. Anyway, love that song.
