Bouterse (13/10/1945 - 24/12/2024) led the junta that lasted from 1980 to 1987, then he was more behind the scenes. In 2010 he came back to office (after being convicted for drugs trafficking).
Insiders claim he was a sock puppet for the dutch government, making sure suriname wasn't too independent. Maybe that's why he was never caught...
