Thats part of it but I do have a pretty good vocabulary. I have a theory about swearing. I don’t think its like normal speech. I think its produced by more primitive parts of the brain, the parts responsible for strong emotions (compared to normal speech which is generated by the cerebral cortex or “logical brain”) . So swearing turns on very primitive ways of thinking and floods our mind with emotions which are probably a bit addictive. There may be an emotional payoff that we become accustomed to if we swear a lot. I swear a lot and have a hard time expressing myself without it. I can supress it when Im in a social setting where swearing is not appropriate. But swearing is what I do when Im in a “friendly” environment. I think its an addictive behavior that I can correct as Ive corrected other ones like drinkiing an smoking. But I haven’t really committed to it yet. I mean I really swear a lot. Its gonna be hard.

Also how am I going to deal with the trolls on this place if I can’t swear? It will be tricky.

pretty aptly put, in a way it's partaking in degeneracy. on a practical front you could view it in a similar vein to politically ambiguous celebrities revealing their hand and cutting their fanbase, it's not good to scare people that could be won over if it only took a more mature approach. even within a friendly environment it does a good job of priming the listeners in a way to understanding that you have a different perspective if your speech isn't the typical mimicry. the perspective i take is to imagine that i'm an ambassador of the society i wish to live in and to represent it well, i think that speech is very important and profanity either holds no value or is detrimental so i do my best to avoid it

I've found that I tend to swear more in company that swears. I suspect its some kind of verbal chameleon thing but I'm really trying to nip it in the bud. You might be on to something there. There's definitely an easier mental flow in conversations that include swearing. I'm almost to the point where I don't scandalize fancy-pantses.

Yeah I think they call it code switching. It happens when I watch too many black movies or Jane Austen period dramas— I start saying odd things like “damn girl!” or “How droll!” Monkey see, monkey do.
