Unfortunately, Japan is NOT 99% Japanese. Closer to 97 or 98% (by census numbers) and falling. Even worse, the government considers anyone with citizenship, regardless of ethnicity or origin, to be "Japanese" for census purposes. Approximately 10% of young people in Tokyo are foreign nationals.
