The books were pretty good. The first Dozen or so anyway. But the movie lost the plot. It makes no sense.

I've never read the books, I only know them by reputation.

The movie was better than I expected, but then my expectations couldn't have been much lower.

Yeah, it's a shame since the books are really good. As long as Tarl Cabot is the protagonist anyway. It's not that the writing is special, it's just that it's full of masculinity in a good way.

The movies were meh, but some of the books were pretty good. The ones written from the female perspective were shit, but the Priest Kings (Millions-year-old bug aliens) and the books about the big beast aliens that live on ships around the outer planets of the solar system and raise and cull humans like dumb cattle were both some pretty great xenos interactions. All women are slaves.

I didn't go in expecting them to be a life changing cinematic experience. Actually they were a lot better than I expected.
