I visited New Orleans, my hometown back in September. Walked down the whole length of Bourbon street during daytime with wifey looking at how changed it all looks since living there.

No, we don't drink and didn't hit the bars or restaurants there. Strolled to Cafe du Monde for Beignets and cafe au lait, then grabbed a muffuletta sandwich ( the greatest sandwich ever) at Central Grocery on Decatur St nearby.

Folks were friendly and helpful everywhere we went. @MasklessTheGreat is usually a good guy about things, but he doesn't know the French Quarter, it's people or business like us locals.

@MasklessTheGreat talks about places with low morals as if he knows the folks who live and visit New Orleans, but 'low morals' is hardly applicable. Tourists wanting to go experience the French quarter spend much more money in the restaurants than in the bars. Same is true about Mardi Gras. It's loud and packed and exciting, but aside from girls showing their boobs to get more trinkets from the parades, it's pretty safe and sane - and lots of fun. And a bit silly.

As a teen my favorite Mardi Gras street band was a local musician named Pete Fountain, calling his slow marching group, 'Pete Fountain's Half-Fast marching band'. Great music, great fun, great name for a band. So fun to be young and alive in wicked old New Orleans!
