The festival is unique to a village where locals believe their god -- Beereshwara Swamy -- was born in cow excrement.

Had some jeet tell me that it was the festival of 1 million lights. Hindu is such a strange religion, it's really hard to wrap your head around. Like there's over a million gods in their pantheon. Not one Indian knows the names of all of them, or why exactly they worship the one the worship. Caste plays a part, but so does geography, and sometimes even the time of year. So ok, they must have a standardized way to worship right? Yeah, totally. Also no not really. Depends on caste, and geography, and season. You'd be really hard pressed to find one thing that unifies Hinduism, like one thing that's common to all of them. You'd be really hard pressed, until you realized that the one thing was their relationship to shit.
