The system will not let you identify as innocent if you violate these people's self perception. In fact that's the point of the judicial system. Make you identify as non-innocent. The more you identify as innocent despite defying them the more they will try to break you.

There is an interesting Ayn Rand concept that the system wants you to be a criminal. They don't want to prevent crime. In fact they expand the definition of crime to make sure normal people are at a risk of being criminals too. The point is that they can have more control over you as a criminal than not. The real point of law is to beat normal people into submission. Either before they commit a "crime" with the threat of law or after they commit a "crime".

Defy their sense of arbitrary dominance over you and you will be treated on par with a murderer, because that's the only crime the state really cares about. They only go after murders so that they can claim to the public and to themselves that they actually do something useful when 90% of what they do is bullshit they shouldn't be doing.
