Any goats on here have information on starting hot shot trucking? I have a 3500 and a enclosed trailer 18 feet 7 feet tall 8 feet wide

Probably not the best trailer I heard 30 foot flat bed to stay under 26k weight is the best.

Appreciate any info

Call a shipping broker and ask them what requirements they look for. They're in every state so make 12 calls. Some are shady and might just hire you tomorrow at whatever license you have if you sign something. Use the opportunity to sell yourself, and show an eagerness in jumping through whatever hoops they need jumped through.

Thanks I was going to call some hot shot companies and see if they would take me on to get started but calling a broker might be a good starting point.

Call both and see what you like. If you've never done it before it never hurts to be shown the ropes. I can't think of a job I did better on my own then after somebody trained me first.

Get one of the broker apps like DAT one.

Look at DOT requirements.

Get a copy of the commercial driver's handbook for your state from your local DOT office.

Would you keep us updated on this?
The place where I work was over eager to force the jab on us. The only thing that kept them from doing it was the state I live in. The governor and our legislators believed that any decisions about our personal health should be our own to decide, and not the "government". Governments change.
So I have been thinking of what to do if I get canned for refusing the jab. Hot shot runs would be a good thing to do. Like you, I don't know much about it. A guy at work says his cousin has a set up like you are talking about with a flatbed trailer. He hauls boats and rv's. Him and his wife hit the road delivering and had the new 3500 truck and 30 something foot trailer paid off in 10 months. They had an "In" with some company that used them to deliver. It worked out well for them.
I hope it works out well for you.

Register your corporation to get an EIN. Register with FMCSA when you get you EIN to get your USDOT number and operating authority as "for-hire". Get your insurance at 1 million dollars. Get your medical card and qualification file. Get an ELD. Keep your truck and trailer inspected. Keep your hours of service correct. If youre intrastate you may need a state operating authority as well.
