In high school, I opened a MIDI file for the Mario theme and wrote out all three instruments as guitar tabs: Melody, Counter Melody, and Bass.

My goal was to find two other guitarists who could play it with me. Unfortunately, I was one of few kids who could actually play it in my class.

Did you know that game was just a repackaged re-skin version of a freebie for some event in Japan? That's why it's stylistically so independently different from all the other Mario games.

Doki Doki Panic. Everyone has known this for a good twenty years now.

What's less commonly known is that it's not really just a reskin; it started as a new Mario title to begin with, then that prototype was shelved until they used it as the basis for Doki Doki Panic at a tech expo. Afterward is was reskinned back to Mario and tweaked a little. There are slight differences aside from just aesthetics.
