She was convicted of "reckless homicide", so basically manslaughter.

It was an accident.

I haven't looked into it but I don't understand how sitting on a child until they die can be labelled an accident.

According to an article in the linked thread, she was a foster mom to this kid, who started throwing a tantrum.

Somehow the kid wound up on the floor - the article isn't clear on whether the kid threw himself on the floor in a fit or they both tussled and he ended up there - but she sat on him for a period of time (5 min? wasn't very long) to calm him down.

When she got up, she noticed he wasn't moving, and called an ambulance. Basically, this seems to be an unfortunate accident where a death occurred, but there was no intent. Her being 340 lbs and almost a foot taller added the "reckless" element to the charge.
