Damn straight! It's all bullshit if all they do is make it public. If that's the only end result then they are just rubbing it in our noses.
If they're searching that instead of how to boot a Linux desktop from a USB stick and use dd and /dev/random to write over the drive a few times, I imagine all their stuff will be on remote storage already anyway.
