When I lost my second Kindle (I keep losing these things), I decided to buy a Kobo because I found out that it was Canadian, and I knew that I couldn't trust Amazon. To make sure that I could transfer my Amazon content over to the new device, I downloaded the DRM-protected books to my storage from their web site, then I downloaded the free and open-source Calibre to remove the DRM. You need to get a plug-in to remove it, but it removes the protection, and you are then free to read those books however and wherever you wish.

This is why I stuck with dead tree format.

E-books are gayer than Elton John's dick in Andy Dick's mouth

1984 is not the future; it is the past.

Think about it....

I keep my door locked, so it's not happening.

Do they mean ebooks on Kindle? Because I would imagine they would be subject to lawsuits if they try to edit printed books themselves.

yes that's what he meant. i had a book that was taken out. erased. it still shows up in my purchase history but it cannot be any longer downloaded

Well, you paid for access to that book. Since you no longer have access, they should return your money. If they won't,well,a class action lawsuit would be in order.

nah the book was part of a promotion i think. but this shows me to distrust their services even more

I had been using Kindle since 2010. I ditched it last Christmas for one of those color Kobos. I haven't paid for a book in years. Been getting everything for free on Anna's Archive or other places. If I can't find the book I want to read for free, I just don't read it.

You know whats even more save from editing than piracy? Stealing the physical copy.

I mean they fucked with the anarchist cook book around till nobody knew what version is what despite piracy (yeah yeah I know glow ops jew fake book)
