Pathetic. I could lift that with one hand.

I did manage to lift it, at the light end, using a crowbar, in order to put the dolly under it but it was very heavy - would probably have been lighter when it had dried out?

Good work, Neri. Those things weight more than fph

Now drill holes in it and insert your mushroom spore plugs.

[ - ] Hobama 1 point 2 monthsFeb 21, 2025 03:09:12 ago (+1/-0)

Does that work?

[ - ] NeverHappened 1 point 2 monthsFeb 21, 2025 10:41:57 ago (+1/-0)

People definitely grow mushrooms in/on logs. I have a cousin that does this and he makes decent money from it. There are preferred varieties of trees for certain mushrooms but I don't have specific knowledge.

It does work with the right kinds of wood. "Oaks and hard maples are the preferred wood-types for most mushroom species because they're very dense and offer plenty of nutrition for a longer, sustained fruiting period."

Here's more info from a mushroom growing site.

Interesting, I have a lot of oak on my land. Will have to look into it.

Definitely do. If you have the logs or stumps, easy source of a variety of mushrooms.

I was going to do perlite/verm and rice flour bins but if it works in logs then that would be awesome.

Pound a spike in. Chain. Drag.

With a truck or pulley, dufus

No room! The area is sandwiched between houses and full of plants.

[ - ] observation1 1 point 2 monthsFeb 21, 2025 23:54:39 ago (+1/-0)

Right but he's not saying drag it with your hands

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 0 points 2 monthsFeb 22, 2025 00:58:44 ago (+0/-0)

No but clearly if there'd been room for the thing to be dragged by a vehicle...I would have done it. His comment was open to different interpretations.

Now for the story. I had a beautiful tree overhanging the ugly shed:

It's the tree on the left:

https://ibb.co/5hXw6mMq

but a long-gone tenant-bitch next door complained to her landlord the tree was blocking the sun from drying her clothes in Winter. So being a good neighbour I trimmed it considerably but keeping it small was a big chore so it had to go. The trunk was very heavy and I originally decided to leave it where it was felled as the termites would finish it off in 10 years and I didn't want to bugger my back but it niggled me as I could use the trunk as a barrier in my compost heap. So with my mighty dolly I managed to extract the thing and I'm rather pleased with myself.

[ - ] Sector2 4 points 2 monthsFeb 21, 2025 02:07:22 ago (+4/-0)

Perhaps she should have rented a house with backyard sun.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 1 point 2 monthsFeb 22, 2025 01:09:57 ago (+1/-0)

For the life of me I can't understand why the landlord doesn't move the clothesline to the sunniest spot in the yard or set up another clothesline in a more appropriate space than right up against the boundary fence! But he's not the kind of bloke who makes compromises.

I am afraid of clicking links to see you extract the log from your ass.
