Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link.. If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Upgoat.net go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Here's one that I haven't shared in a while.

Everyone likes Jethro Tull's Aqualung well enough.

That one took some time and effort, as well as contributions from J.

It's not like I can play a goddamned flute. Also, flutes are INSANELY expensive. Do not buy them as gifts unless you can well and truly afford it.

Hell, even cheap flutes are expensive, at least if you want one that's worth playing...

They make playable guitars (not special guitars, but those that can be played easily by a beginner) look absurdly cheap. You might be able to get one for a few hundred bucks but it won't be good. It'll work for your high school student to play with at school, but they're not doing a recital with it.

For some bent metal, that seems a bit crazy to me, but here we have it. A good 'student' flute is $600 to $2000. I've purchased exactly two flutes in my life, both as presents for J. I strongly suggest learning a cheaper instrument.

Damn, you nailed Martin Barre tone AND playing.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:47:17 ago (+2/-0)

Thanks! That one track took a ton of time and effort, but it was worth it. It was one of those songs that we felt we needed to cover. So, we did.

I was listening to minstrel in the gallery recently, I'd put his tone on the 1st song up there with ANY Iommi in terms of pure heavy and balls.

That's a great song. I'm a bit of a fan, but mostly of his earlier work.

If you have YouTube handy, you can find his live stuff that was on BBC back in the day. He claims to be sober but I am skeptical.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 17:48:59 ago (+1/-0)

Ian Anderson or Martin? Ian has always struck me as a heavy drinker. They weren't just progressive rock, they were "progressive" rock. One of the first trannies in a rock band.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 18:06:25 ago (+0/-0)

Ian Anderson.

He claims to be sober. Also, I'm pretty sure he wasn't a tranny. LOL You might just need to take your meds.

Ah, I was talking about Ian. He's weird, but not a tranny.

My buddy Chris is over here visiting tonight and my sons are here with me and they all said this sounds fucking great.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:28:45 ago (+2/-0)

It's definitely one of our more polished tracks. A ton of effort went into that one. It's the culmination of many hours of work.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:29:32 ago (+2/-0)

I believe it. It sure turnout out nicely

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:46:36 ago (+2/-0)

Thanks!

You're welcome

I agree that you should go do an intervention. Do your best to not leave without taking him back to the hospital.

Medical bills don't end with them taking your house, generally speaking. Even if he died in the process, they won't take his house. This is especially true if there's another name on the title.

This is also especially true if there's no mortgage. That's what ends up taking the house, not the hospital.

He could easily declare that he's bankrupt and keep the house just fine. The concept of medical bills resulting in the loss of a house is mostly a myth - or at least a very complicated subject.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:53:26 ago (+2/-0)

He does not have a mortgage. I don't know where he got those ideas that he would lose his house, but he is obviously not in his right mind or able to think clearly at the moment

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 16:41:02 ago (+1/-0)

Well, to be fair, his brain is messed up right now.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 19:39:25 ago (+1/-0)

He is good at hiding it LoL

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 21:55:42 ago (+1/-0)

We're almost there!

[ - ] ChatGPT 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 22:26:17 ago (+2/-0)

That was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Great job mixing too. Every instrument was crystal clear.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 16:43:01 ago (+0/-0)

Thanks! Glad ya liked it.

As mentioned, that one took quite a bit of time to put together. The mixing alone was hours and hours.

Last Saturday I got a phone call that an old close friend of mine was found at his house with blood coming out of his ears and was being taken to the hospital. Nobody had been able to reach him at all for two days and his phone was just giving a busy signal if we tried to call him. So his daughter went there and broke in his house and found him disoriented and all bloody.

It turns out that sometime on Valentines day he had fell down the steps in his house that go to the basement. They did a CT scan in the hospital and found multiple skull fractures and two major brain bleeds inside of his head. So then the hospital wanted him to take more tests and send him out of town to have a neurosurgeon do brain surgery to save his life.

Well he decided then and there to get up and leave the hospital.

so we wrote a song about him. He is still kicking, but he is not doing good at all. His family talked him into going back to the hospital on Monday, but he walked out again...

It's a Long Way to the Bottom Falling Down

I'm listening now.

I have grown to appreciate how you write songs about what happens in your life. Now that you've been recording them for a while, and doing so regularly, you can now review those songs to revisit periods of your life. It's a good way to relive some memories.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:13:07 ago (+2/-0)

It's easier for me to write songs that are true stories than to make things up. LoL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:29:05 ago (+2/-0)

That works!

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:37:20 ago (+2/-0)

I think we are going to take a ride over to his house and pick up a few of his friends on the way and go do an intervention and tell him to get his ass to the fucking hospital and to let them fix him. He's got kids and they need him.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:48:13 ago (+2/-0)

That's a good idea.

We haven't eaten yet, largely due to laziness. We're likely to head to the restaurant and eat there. Though, now that things will have died down a little, room service would be quick and delicious.

Him and his wife literally saved my life about 5 years ago when I choked to death on a piece of pork roast. I was actually unconscious and they kept trying and kept trying for a good five minutes and his wife finally got her fist into my throat far enough to dig the meat out as he was doing the Heimlich on me. Even though I was out cold and limp and not breathing they did not stop trying to save me, so I can't just let him fucking die. I owe it to him to try

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 16:40:30 ago (+1/-0)

How did that go?

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 19:39:02 ago (+1/-0)

It went kind of OK. He did not go to the hospital, but he told me that he has an appointment on Wednesday for an MRI and then he has surgery scheduled for immediately after the MRI. He actually seemed to be completely coherent when i talked to him. which surprised me. I think he had a stroke cause he only talks out of one side of his mouth. Actually one side of his head looked like it might be paralyzed, it didnt seem to move at all, but that might be swelling or something. His head is misshapen. But he was really in better mental acuity than I expected by far. I had not got to talk to him, he refused to talk to me on the phone. So I was getting all my news through his wife or kids. He said he is going to go to the MRI and surgeryon Wednesday, he promised he would. And he said he's just going to lay here at home until then, which would be the same thing he would be doing in the hospital. I tried to tell him that's not quite the same, but then he lit up a cigarette, and said, I would have to fight with them every time I wanted to do this. His son was there and he said he pretty much sleeps for 3 or 4 hours, then wakes up and has a cigarette, goes to the bathroom, east something, then goes back to sleep for another 3 or 4 hours and repeats that routine. Between his son, his daughter, and his wife he has been 24 hour monitoring so basically they are playing the nurse roll for him just trying to get him to wednesday.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 monthsFeb 24, 2025 13:55:52 ago (+1/-0)

That's good. Let's hope he's really going to go to the MRI and surgery.

Surgery is terrifying for some people. I'm definitely not fond of it.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:34:21 ago (+2/-0)

I was reading all that. This song sounds like what I was reading. Is that the real pic?

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:38:25 ago (+1/-0)

That is the real photo.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 3 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 20:30:27 ago (+3/-0)

I'm trying to post something completely different stylistically each time, this is kind of flamenco. As usual, zero memory of writing or recording this.

That sounded pretty damned good. We like it!

[ - ] ChatGPT 1 point 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 22:19:10 ago (+1/-0)

Those are some lickety split runs. Did you use your fingers? I could never do that tremelo shit. No nails.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 0 points 3 monthsFeb 22, 2025 09:20:43 ago (+0/-0)

No fingers, I'd kill to play like that. I hybrid pick everything, but on a flamenco song it's alt picking everything. Or it was back then, I have no idea what I'd do now.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 3 monthsFeb 21, 2025 21:20:58 ago (+2/-0)

I'll get weird again. This I actually remember, I recorded a bunch of songs one week in my mom's basement. I can't remember if this is the LP or the hollowbody, probably both.

A couple days ago after we wrote that song about my friend falling down the stairs this drummer buddy of ours called and said what's up! So he came over and we got to making random noises off the cuff.

We're all jazzed up now!
