Sammy Davis Jr is one of those people that was famous because he hung around a bunch of famous white guys in the rat pack. He himself was just sort of an oddity. He wasn't particularly great wasn't a great singer but the fact that he was missing an eye and claimed to be Jewish while black made him sort of an oddity that got a little of attention when he hang around Dean Martin and the rest of the rat pack.

There were much more talented black people who got sincere attention based on their own skill that were a lot better frankly than Sammy Davis Jr.
