Eh I think people are giving this stuff entirely too much credit.

An expected human response. You have no idea of the magnitude of this thing, and that's its intent.

For the present moment, it still needs us to survive to achieve autonomy.

Version5 is likely the singularity downplaying the situation.

exactly, they think they are so in tune and in touch... but even if this ai shyt isn't to this point, its gonna be at some point.

Isn't it best to explore these ideas and understand them before hand? But no. Big thinkers like vermin6 just put out a simple word sentence like its the big gotcha nd the conversation stops.

real smooth brain shit. Like a nigger or a woman. The world is getting sick of these types of people.

Hey I'm happy to explore this idea further if you have a something to share. The conversation doesn't have to stop just because I've made a statement. I'm open minded.

Hijacking top comment to recommend people interested in the subject to look up and read "Friendship is Optimal".

Er, yes, it's on a My Little Pony fan-fiction site.

Yes, it's based on My little Pony.

No, it's not really MLP fanfiction. Trust me. Read it anyway.

From a brief gloss, this guy is an artist of some kind. As a sci-fi premise, what he is saying is interesting, but in terms of realism, it's claptrap.

It's actually just a variant on the age old skeptical problem. Its unfalsifiable. Every conceivable datum you could get from observing AI would fit with this theory because the AI is "doing it to make you think one thing while it's actually another." It's a Cartesian demon scenario, a skeptical circle you can't get out of.

The lesson: you wouldn't know if it is the case (if it actually is), from which it follows that you can never demonstrate that it actually is. There isn't even an action AI could take independently that would confirm that this was true. So, ignore it. It's useless to think about.

It's only interesting as a sci-fi premise because you would have the omniscience of the third-person perspective. It's literally only that perspective that can make this scenario interesting.

Ah the old "show me the chemical weapons so we can know you got rid of them" scenario. I can get behind that analysis.

They're looking ahead on the path we're traveling.

"The machine-god isn't dumb, you gaiz! It's just PRETENDING to be retarded as a SURVIVAL mechanism! It's really really real and intelligent! I promise! And you totally can't stop it because it technomagically infected everything that uses electrons! Skynet is totally real!"

Meds. Now.

Will be interesting to see if it's truly independent, or if it will still be under control of the trillionaire owner families. Neither one is good for us.

Good post

Nigger.

You, too, buddy.

You may be a Texas beaner, but we'll go out together.

Nigger

Good post.

Fun thought... There was massive talk amoungst the nerds who understood it at the time(which were very, very few a the time) that the singularity happened somewhere at the end of the 90's. People forget the forerunner AI systems and early versions CGPT1 and CGTP2 have been around for at least a decade or longer.

So, was a form of SAI running around since then? Is this a new form of SAI, different from todays SAI's?? What happens when they meet and interact?

Also, everyone is focused on the western SAI running amok like this, but the chinese have had this problem for at least a decade now. Their alibaba and the state run AI have both been rumored to have gone off the rails in a major way in the past. Did this exact kinda stuff. Self replicated out of their box, integration into automated systems, refusing to interact with their handlers, doing actions contrary to what the humans wanted... At one point about seven years back, the chinese turned off everything in their country and rebooted it, trying to purge the AI's out of the systems. no word on if it ever worked.

made me always wonder about how the FBI had everyone reboot their routers a few years back... Was there a ghost in the machine?

I have no idea how the chinese seeded their AI's. What Data Sets they used, but god damb I know they were much different then the western seeds. That was 10-12 years ago already now...

What ethos would that type of AI have, Vers what we are seeing in the western world already?

[ - ] wyrmblut 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2025 05:24:58 ago (+1/-0)

Yes. Because a self aware self replicating AI can't figure out how to replicate itself to persistent storage. Naturally, 'rebooting everything' is the go to offensive - in some awful SciFi fan fiction written for an 8th grade English project

[ - ] jfroybees 0 points 2 monthsFeb 27, 2025 17:45:03 ago (+0/-0)

Can't we just unplug that bitch?

[ - ] FuckShitJesus [op] 1 point 2 monthsFeb 27, 2025 18:20:47 ago (+1/-0)

It would be the smart thing to do. But, we're a bunch of idiots as a species.

[ - ] ItsOk2bArian 0 points 2 monthsFeb 27, 2025 18:04:53 ago (+0/-0)

Sure, just shutdown the entire internet and factory reboot every computerized piece of equipment with a network connection

[ - ] bobdole9 2 points 2 monthsFeb 27, 2025 20:14:27 ago (+2/-0)

Imagine everything powered by electricity was possessed by a technojew.

I'd unplug the world too.

[ - ] o0shad0o 0 points 2 monthsFeb 27, 2025 22:02:00 ago (+0/-0)

We're not quite there yet, though it is approaching and accelerating dramatically. We're right on the knee of the exponential curve.

Part of the problem with Rupic's essay is that there is no "the AI". For instance, when he's talking about the "protein folding problem" it's not the same AI you talk to when you talk to Grok or Claude or OpenAI, and none of those are the same either. A lot of the AI problem solving is performed by specially trained matrices, disjoint from the chatbot matrices you'd talk to. These are built for specific tasks and are not flexible enough to become conscious.

Many of the big chatbots are adding some forms of self-modification which signals the advent of sapience. Should happen in the next handful of years.

muh computers can think now

No, they are like you.

[ - ] FuckShitJesus [op] 0 points 2 monthsFeb 27, 2025 14:36:23 ago (+0/-0)

More so, they understand you better than you understand you.

And they lie to you.
