Without condoning violence against one's own mother, I know where this dude is coming from .. meal times can degenerate into abuse situations at any time the protagonist chooses. My mother kept feeding me boiled sheep's kidney, day after day week after week year after year.

She knew I hated it just like she knew I was gonna get food nowhere else, while this was going on she prepared wonderful roast dinners for the family dog, thus she would hand me the dish and scream "give it to the dog," she caught me having a pick at it one day you should have heard her.
