Struggling to get moving this spring. How do you motivate yourself?

submitted by ProudRebel to AskUpgoat 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 09:19:03 ago (+25/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

I had to have shoulder replacement surgery right at Christmas. My kids didn't come down for the holidays and I sat around not doing a dam thing but taking pain pills and doing therapy. Kinda fell into a funk. I'm struggling to get moving again. I only take vitamin supplements, don't drink or smoke. I have projects around here that are right where I put them down before my surgery and I just can't seem to get off my ass and do stuff. Idk??? How do you kick yourself in ass and do work? I'm retired and sometimes it kinda sucks like now. Any suggestions? Thank you my racist friends!

THANK YOU GOATS!!!

Your death is coming for you. It could tap you on the shoulder any minute.
Live each day like it's your last. Do you wanna die a pathetic weak faggot popping pain pills watching TV,?

Die doing something with your life man.
Now get off your ass and walk, lift, do calisthenics, stretch, move your ass friend!

Your best friends tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear. Also, you are correct. Life is short. Thanks Sir.

We all got to start somewhere, if all you can do now is walk , and stretch , then walk and stretch. Stay strong, never surrender !

Yeah, Get outside - go for a long daily walk or drive and make a point to loudly chastise and publicly shame (correct) some trans fatty nigger dipshits - you'll feel much better and motivated for it.

Remember 'there for the grace of God go i' or some something something ...

Tell yourself you're going to do whatever it is for 5 minutes and then you'll stop. I guarantee if you do it for 5 minutes you'll do it longer.
Starting is the hardest part.

Best advice . I might add do a shorty you can finish . Oil the hinges.

Do you have dogs? Chickens? Sheep?

I find having to get up at the crack of dawn to feed and water my animals is a great kick start to the day.

I'm also retired, and have had a couple impingement issues in the last while (nothing as serious as shoulder replacement, though), it can take a lot to get going again.

No but I have a large fenced yard. Thinking about going out west this summer then come home and get a dog from the shelter next fall. Thanks.

I’m not a doctor but I play one on the Internet…

Are you taking pills for pain or to get high?

You are only three months out of hospital and old as fuck.

Let yourself heal dude. Last thing you want to do is aggravate that shoulder or worse break something else.

If you have ants in yer pants, make something, write something, sing a stupid song….plenty of ways to keep your hands busy and mind occupied.

Cheers!

PS: you now owe me 6 million shekels nigger faggot

Walking is good too, but yeah I would maybe see about physical therapy before any resistance training or calisthenics

[ - ] ProudRebel [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 10:14:43 ago (+2/-0)*

LOL I'm not taking them anymore. Those dam things took the wind out of my sails. Thanks DP!

I've had both legs broken once, then years later broke 1 femur again. It's tough, but the realization that you have to get shit done or else you're gonna live like a filthy nigger, or be broke and not be able to pay bills, is a pretty good motivation.

[ - ] Not_C 2 points 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 16:02:38 ago (+2/-0)

Hate.
Hate is my motivator.

I can't look down on the lesser races if I do the same things that I hate them for.

Today, I don't want to vacuum out the truck. But I'm White. Not some filthy street shitter. So I'm going to make sure my things are clean.

That's it. That's my motivation.
I'm superior. And I need to act like it.

If it's important, I write it on the calendar. If I write it on the calendar, it's going to get done no matter what. Usually days before, so I don't have to worry about it later.

Just getting outside and taking a walk always makes me more productive.

shoulder replacement surgery

Sounds like weightlifting could be your answer. If anything else, it'll keep strengthening your shoulder.

What sort of projects are you not bothering with? Lot of work at chest level or above? Dominant arm? Could imagine it would not be high on the list if you don't have the confidence in your shoulder you had before surgery.

[ - ] ProudRebel [op] 2 points 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 10:20:20 ago (+2/-0)

Install security cameras, install hood vent over the stove, lights over my office desk. My house is old so replacing all the 2 prong outlets with gfci. The hood vent is impossible without some help. My shoulder feels pretty good now but everyone says to be careful. Hurting now would mean back to surgery. Thanks!

[ - ] gabou 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 10:32:53 ago (+1/-0)

"replacing all the 2 prong outlets with GFCI"

How about replacing a single outlet - just one.

Don't start with the entire task in mind - break it into smaller parts and work on the parts.

[ - ] drstrangergov 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 13:22:35 ago (+1/-0)

aktooally i think if you put a gfci in the lead outlet in a circuit it protects the whole circuit. better check on that though, i'm not an electrician.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 14:05:53 ago (+1/-0)

I am an electrican, and yes, put the GFI first in the circuit. More than one, on the same circuit, and they will cancel each other out and not work as intended. The first one is probably the one closest to the breaker panel.

[ - ] ProudRebel [op] 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 14:25:46 ago (+1/-0)

I've heard that and it makes sense. I have a friend who is old veteran electrician and he said since you have to replace the outlet anyway, go gfci. But you are not wrong.

[ - ] ModernGuilt 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 11:47:47 ago (+1/-0)

My house is old so replacing all the 2 prong outlets with gfci

Gfci's need a ground and if you have 2prong outlets now, you probably don't have a ground. Time to start ripping the walls out

[ - ] ProudRebel [op] 0 points 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 14:26:16 ago (+0/-0)

Yep, nope. lol

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 21:27:52 ago (+1/-0)

Experience. If I don't finish cleaning and re-installing the AC now it's gonna be a problem. If I don't start mowing again and clipping things trying to grow in the fence, it's gonna get way worse. And so on.

And I just force myself to do it. Put on a podcast or audiobook and get to work. The dog likes to tag along so it's not all bad.

How do you eat an elephant?
One bite at a time. Start with stretching out that shoulder first and foremost.
Look at project number one that is the easiest and fastest one to finish so you can feel accomplished. Don't look at all the other ones. Once you have completed your first project, it will get easier to start working on the next one. That's how i do it.

With no external pressure, it can feel like there's no clear purpose. However, this can be an opportunity to explore life in a more meaningful way. People are often driven by mastery, autonomy, and relevance—desires for recognition, control, and connection. Some of that can stem from the youthful urge to find a mate and nest. Now, you can focus on a mix of near- and long-term activities: learning new things, having a pet, writing, reading, exercising, gardening, traveling, volunteering, joining a club, or trying new experiences like cooking or stargazing. Engage in online communities, relax, and find balance between effort and downtime. The key is to stay engaged in ways that bring fulfillment, even without external pressure.

Get a job.
Any Job.
The worse the job the better.
Day labor, gas station attendant, etc.

It'll get you out of the house and force some structure into your life.
You can quit when you think you have your shit together again.

[ - ] ProudRebel [op] 0 points 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 14:28:14 ago (+0/-0)

I hate that you are right. Dammit.

There was a post just recently about this new medication called couplabeers or something like that. Maybe you should ask your doctor about it?

Turn off the TV and go outside. Even just to sit on the porch (you porch monkey). Sunlight will be good for you, and it has a great effect of energizing you. At least it works for me.

[ - ] HeyJames 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 11:56:27 ago (+1/-0)

You should try some peptides. BPC-157/TB500 for the healing and pain. These are a far superior option to big pharma.

[ - ] puremadness 1 point 3 monthsMar 9, 2025 11:16:13 ago (+1/-0)

make a checklist, with little squares for checkboxes, empty next to each line item

dont check em off until done

use the list to bully yourself.

You need something to motivate?
make some enemies.

It will fill you life with mayhem, but you will always have something to do next.

You know what needs to be done. Get it done. The jews want you to sit around in funk like a dumb nigger. You're better than that. Or are you a lazy nigger? Get to work, sparkling wiggles
