So , there is lots of hand wringing and outrage at the US cutting budgets. But there is little understanding as to the why of it all.

What is not being talked about (and should be the top convo) is the 60 trillion in debt the US is in. This is money that is simply NOT THERE. The us has been spending monies it does not have. Full stop.

People don't seem to realize this and seem to think all the services and goods they enjoy comes free? I'm not sure how people don't get this.


So the rough numbers break down: (we can argue all day long on exact numbers and sources, but this is how it breaks down)

32 trill in sovereign swap debt (contrary to popular belief money is NOT just printed out of thin air) This is fed monies.

Another 30 trill is hidden "shadow" debt. Moneys that have been shuffled off or run through NGOS that are 'technically' out side of the federal budget process, but still has to be accounted for. No one is really sure what this number is, but best guess is around 30 trill.

About 100 trillion in "unfunded" mandates. Things like medicare and social security. These funds have already been looted and there is not near enough money to cover the next few years of obligations. There are also Treaty payout. Folks don't know things like the marshal plan and WW I payouts are sometimes still in effect. The last marshal plan payment was like in 2010, Climate change obligations like the now defunk paris deal, or the Oslo accords. the US had to pay massively and not in equal amounts to the rest of the world.
Etc..


So long story short. THERE IS NO MONEYS LEFT.

Full Stop.

AND there is starting to be a MASSIVE interest payment on these "borrowed" monies. It's now 120 Billion every quarter, in interest alone. How does that work long term?



These cuts have to happen and frankly the folks managing it are the exact people we want managing it.

This is what a "medium hard" landing looks like. This is called "austerity" (remember that word from a few years ago????) We missed the opportunity for a "soft landing" a few years back and still are on the brink of a VERY "HARD landing"
