Politics aside Frémont was unquestionably one of the greatest Americans that ever lived. Comparable to Teddy Roosevelt.

Funny how the OP tags him as being in pay to popery. The Democrats were the Irish party. Though in being part French Canadian he was accused of being a crypto-Catholic.
