Unironically we probably are if standard empirical genetic distance testing is applied.

Wolves and coyotes are separate species but can successfully interbreed and have fertile offspring. They just tend to not last long, and those that do are again considered a separate species from the parent species depending on location. I.E. the red wolf for those that are considered a separate species, and the coywolf for those that are considered a hybrid or subspecies.
