Each of them took an "Oath of Office" prior to their hiring.

Betraying that oath is treason. They literally swore not to work against the Constitution, and those tasked with upholding it.

I think it's a mistake to believe 'the government' is anything but ranch hands employed to control the cattle herd for the benefit of the "ranchers". As such, I don't see it possible for the term "treason" to apply. Making such an oath is simply an effective herd management policy.
