I have actually done this! It was in April way back in 2007 but not Easter and it was not crowded. There were a lot of Maronites there however.

It is a massive misconception that they would have a carpenter build such an elaborate piece to kill the lowest of society on. Romans didn't give a fuck about the people they were crucifying.

The research into stories of how the romans would crucify people at the time makes a lot more sense than what's in the bible.

What they did, according to historical writings, is it wasn't a "cross" it was an "X" of logs that were tied in the middle with a leather strap and then hammered together in the center with a large spike. They would then tie the feet and hands to the ends of the "X". They wouldn't hammer nails through them usually, but they were having fun killing the "king of the jews" that was arrested for child trafficking.

They would put these "X's" on the side of the road leading into the city with people being crucified, so people could get the message to not fuck around in town.

It's a fantasy some carpenter perfectly constructed a beautiful "cross" to then set it into the ground. That's a lot of work to kill someone at the lowest level of society. That's not how it went down.

So we should be wearing "X's" around our neck, and not a cross. It can easily be lost in translation, because an X is a cross. Simple misunderstanding.

From my research the T was used later, the earlier crucifixions in Jesus' time was an X rapped with leather in the middle, and placed on the side of the road. It wasn't a cross, that I'm sure of.

There is a documentary of an Archaeologist that dives into this question, and it used multiple artifacts from the period to so confirm depictions of the Tau.

I take any "christian" account with a heavy grain of salt, because it didn't exist at the time. They were gnostics or on the path of gnosis to be more specific. Simply meaning on the path of knowledge.

This is why I take research done outside of religion to be a better gauge of the history of the time. I'll try to find the writings of a roman crucifixion from the greek tellings of the time, that is removed from religion, and jesus. Just stories of how they would crucify them. That's where I got this idea from.

Sounds like you're on a similar path of knowledge as I am. This is why I brought up Gobekli Tepe "T" pillars. Because that's what those are depicting, "life". So they were using that T as a symbol as long ago as 14,000 years.

I'm fairly certain the steps stopped after he was forced to lay on the cross, and get nailed-roped to it. It might have been difficult to take a step with 1 foot long spike driven into both feet, and into the wooden blocks on the cross.
