For one thing, if his little dig about the Pope means he is referring to Catholics, then no Catholic will assert that anybody is or is not going to hell. If you listened to a single Catholic pray for the repose of the Pope's soul after his death, then you'll realize that Catholics won't even assert that the Pope was saved.

No, I absolutely don't think that. I'm not saying jews don't have obscenities yelled at them, but I am saying that I doubt it rises above the probability for anybody in NY to have obscenities yelled at them. I don't think, contrary to their stories, that jews walk around with justified fear of being bullied at any moment on the street. Rather, they benefit from convincing other people that this falsehood is true.
It really bothers them because they worry that it might be true. That's why it really bothers them. Anytime anybody has a big angry reaction it's because you've hit a nerve. If he actually didn't care he would have walked on and just had a chuckle to himself.
