Yup, gettin' there myself. I'd plug the fridge into the solar system instead of the AC and uhhh, maybe the modem and a laptop or something. Then have some lunch or walk the dog.
Look into total solar power. There are some cool power management tools to implement as cost allows. Once set up and running it pays for it's self. Anytime there is a power cut I get a message asking to swith banks to solar and I can in seconds. You have to cut the breaker to main feed so you don't send power into the grid. My cameras are priority,the property is covered with surveillance. Not paranoid at all,topped off and ready is all it is.
Got a nice generator, a transfer switch on my home and a reasonable supply of gas. If it starts to look like a long blackout, I keep a full tank of gas for the potential bug out. I’ll just sit tight and see how it plays out. I’ve got shortwave radios to monitor the world situation and communicate.
I have it inside a zombiebox sound enclosure. Only my immediate neighbors can hear it. However, the biggest give away is having your lights on at night. So discretion is my plan.
First thing is to ensure all your devices are charged and ready. Second is getting an inverter for your car. I suggest 1000w or more.
Have extra batteries for your optics as well. CR batteries are going to be a mother fucker to find, same with AA and any lithium types.
Check your weapon lights because moons out goons out. I been waiting for the purge siren to go off. Remember that thermal cannot see through glass, night vision can. Get you a red flashlight too.
Secure a clean water supply. Backs of toilet tanks does in a pinch, use those ziplock bags with the slider. Doesnt make noise like a water bottle will and it is far easier to stack when frozen.
Life straws and the likes are a joke, cut the bottom off a 2liter bottle turn it upside down so the mouth is facing downwards.
Fill it with broken up charcoal and sand that you know is clean. And use that as a filter then boil it. Snack often. MRE peanut butter, jelly, cheese spreads, and drink mixes stack well and don't take up much room
You will want to remain mobile till you are isolated. Use infrastructure to set up camp.
Something preferably elevated and not in a path of water flow. Get you some night vision so you can drive without headlights too.
I suggest getting some ebooks on survival that shows you ways to prep wild game with pictures, identified plants, how to use a sextant and a compass.
Put it on a tablet and all your documents on a micro sd. Saves room is all. Samsung makes some good ones, get you an otterbox for it as well. One with a snap on screen cover.
Start looking for a sling bag you can use when scouting that will carry water, extra ammo, some food and basics.
You do not want to use maps with drawn directions either. Last thing you want is me to see you and become a loot box.
Learn the difference between cover and concealment too. Because i know I am lethal as fuck to 1000y currently.
Within 100y I can hit inside of your iris, 500 going to be around your nipple. 1000 going to be around 2in and that is first shot cold bore.
Realize that if you make yourself a target of opportunity, you only get to do that once.
When the lights go off, if I don't know you...i don't want to know you. Assume the same of anyone else.
We're set. I have a great book I'm into, be reading that on the front porch during the day with my pups nearby, curled up with my woman at night. Don't have, nor need, a generator. NBD
I would advise people to get at least one or two solar panels setups even if they're merely the little 12 volt 20 watt solar panels you can buy for 30 bucks that will keep your car battery charged and charge your cell phone. You could at least took one of those up to a regular car battery in a box and attention inverter and have some electric power.
