I ask the AI about a Hibernian Occupied Government, or HOG, and it amusingly gives me a thoughtful response

The phrase "Hibernian occupied government" likely refers to a period in Irish history when a government, or parts of it, were controlled by the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), a Catholic fraternal society. While the AOH played a significant role in Irish nationalism and Irish-American communities, it's not accurate to say they "occupied" a government in the sense of a takeover. The AOH exerted influence through its political activities, including supporting Irish nationalist causes and the Irish Parliamentary Party, but it was not a ruling body itself.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH):

This society was founded in the 19th century, primarily among Irish Catholic immigrants, and aimed to provide support, protection, and cultural preservation.

Influence on Politics:

The AOH became a powerful auxiliary to the Irish Parliamentary Party in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in Ulster. They supported policies that aligned with Irish nationalism and Home Rule, which was a proposal to grant Ireland self-governance within the United Kingdom.

Not a Rulng Body:

While the AOH wielded significant influence and played a key role in shaping political discourse, it was never in charge of a government. It was a fraternal society that exerted influence through political action, not through occupying government seats or imposing their will on the existing structure.

Examples of Influence:

The AOH's influence is evident in their support for Home Rule, their role in Irish-American communities, and their contributions to nationalist movements, including the Irish Revolution and the subsequent establishment of the Irish Free State.

On a more serious note: this is a good book to read on ethnic lobbying in the US, and yeah, the Irish lobby has some clout.

Zbig said in 'The Grand Chessboard' that ethnic squabbling due to increased diversity threatened to make US foreign policy incoherent. We saw some of this when the Armo lobby rammed through congressional recognition of their genocide complex despite the obvious harm it did to US relations with Turkey and over the opposition of the Trump White House.

From the AI:

"In 2019, both the House and Senate passed resolutions recognizing the Armenian genocide, despite the Trump administration's opposition. The House vote was 405-11 in favor, while the Senate passed the resolution by unanimous consent. The Trump administration, through statements from the State Department, stated that their position on the matter had not changed, essentially rejecting the resolutions."

Overwhelming vote too.

Now, I'm not sure if all this pro0ves the Irish control America, but it might pro0ve the Armenians do.

Or some shit.

On an also amusing note: Lord Palmerston believed Irish exiles controlled US newspapers.
