So, why did the one, true God permit a false demigod to lead the Israelites astray? And does that mean the Mosaic law is bunk?
This sounds like bad theology to me. Perhaps the Old Testament does not make this explicit, but it is widely recognized that God does not transact directly with human beings (this being considered a metaphysical impossibility). Rather, God uses angels as mediators. The Angel of the Lord has a prominent role to play. It is understood that these designated mediators act in God's stead, meaning you can't just do the Gnostic thing and yank the demiurgos concept in to impugn the Jews.
Yhwh is not the demiurge and never has been. That's not to say that Yhwh was a monotheistic deity either. I don't believe he was. Instead, all of this confusion results from people at one time and place, with one set of beliefs, reading their beliefs into other peoples' systems.
This sounds like more "Christianity is not Jewish" coping.
