When I was more politically left (when they actually helped people and weren't pedophiles, human traffickers and thieves) I didn't go to Wally's because it fucked over everyone from the smaller stores to its workers. Now I don't go because it's full of trash and niggers have infested the place.

They have to complete with Amazon yet have all of the costs of the physical stores/employees/insurance/local taxes/ etc…..
And the mom and pop stores are disappearing. Always shop T your locally owned ace or truvalue hardware store…..

They'd show up in an area, often in a centalized location, and then offer lower prices on everything. They could continue doing so by buying massive quantities and keeping their prices low enough to kill the other businesses.
It's known as 'predatory capitalism' and is (generally speaking) something that is approved by the hard right capitalists who think 'free market' is the only reason to exist.
Frankly, I'm not sure what would have fixed it but I'm sure that it's a problem now. You should see what has happened to places where Walmart has since closed their doors. (Those businesses are going to take a while to recover.)
