You just got to know it's Friday when the pouring rain starts as soon as you're done with work and is expected to last through the weekend. That means it is time to plug in the guitars and rock on. It's the Friday Night Guitar Thread. Get in here.

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link.. If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Upgoat.net go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, ask a regular participant (such as @TheRealBuddha or myself)

If you already know what's going on, you probably don't need to click any of those links. You can still visit to see if any changes have been made, as that's also where we kept the archives and have a second forum.

By the way, we're down to just two of us. If you want to help, let us know.

Here's another one from the archives - except this is with the band. I don't know if it was ever shared in the FNGT. I know it was shared on another site when Voat was down. I was drinking heavily, so I shared it.

For the life of me, I can't remember the name of said site. It was not Poal.

Money For Nothing (full band)

Yeah, the name of that other site is gone to my memory. It was sort of like Voat except it was there while Voat still existed.

Anyhow, that's the band.

Is this you singing?

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 54 minutesMay 16, 2025 22:50:56 ago (+1/-0)

Yup. Well, not just me... LOL

That was from very on in the BDE days.

Also, the name of the site that I couldn't remember is 'phuks'. I did a search through my saved passwords and that was it. If they're not important sites, I let my password manager store the passwords. I keep the important passwords locked inside my head or written down in a safe.

I have them written down (and updated) in a safe so that people can come by to deal with my online accounts when I kick the bucket.

But, yeah, that's more than just me singing. We also took some liberties with the song, specifically with the intro. It was a longer intro than normal and we showed a bunch of stuff on the screen behind us while we built our way into the song. It was done when people had to move from one instrument to another and an equipment change was scheduled.

For example, I wasn't using a regular mic at the time. I had my IEM and mic strapped to me. That way I had both hands free to play guitar and get the audience going.

Man, that was a long time ago...

It doesn't seem like it, but that was years ago. I was in a wheelchair for this show.

Yeah...

I stood for some of it but couldn't really move and my chair was beside me. I believe I was standing for this one. I believe I have cell phone footage for this one.

LOL I told you that was a long time ago. Yeah... It was from December of 2018. I was in a wheelchair and put up with the pain so that I could stand for a portion of the show. The band really wasn't ready to work on their own, but they had a baptism in fire.

I don't know if you ever saw this. COF and I were pretty close, engaging each other daily in both private and in public. In spirit, I was with him until the end. I even comforted the family in their time of need.

This should hit pretty hard, but I'll share it regardless:

Nailed it like always. You can't play that song without that tone. My cat enjoyed me singing along with it.

I was in horrible shape for that one. Open the full thread to read a brief bit.

I had just been in a horrendous automobile wreck. (I even posted from the hospital, complete with pics and everything!) LOL

We weren't sure if I'd ever really walk again. So, I was in a wheelchair for a bunch of the show. The band was still too new to really do such an important show without me. So, we showed my x-rays on the projector's screen behind the band and explained why I was in a wheelchair.

The show must go on...

I even stood (for some definition of 'stand') for a part of the show. Basically, we put an X and a box (in tape) on the stage and that was my spot. Nobody was allowed into my spot and I was able to support myself on one leg for a while.

I don't have the images with me. Sleazy might still have copies. I broke my femur in a wild wreck. I was a passenger in the car and I have no business being alive today. That's not a joke. I literally should be dead.

Anyhow, I was all sorts of fucked up for a couple of years. It took a long time to recover and I'll never be 100% again. I broke a bunch of important bits but the worst was my femur. It was broken completely through it, as in the top was broken off entirely. It's now metal and the bolts and all that stuff.

Yes, it still hurts to this very day.

Here's right now. Jam with George is becoming a weekly thing.

I'm a porch monkey

This is the only time I've done this. My friend did keyboard/midi music back then and asked if I'd put guitar on one. I'm actually kinda proud of the frippy sounding parts toward the beginning. He didn't think I was going to learn the fast parts, I double harmonized that Brian May style. If it's annoying, there's at least a pretty good solo at the end.

T-Money

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 0 points 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:01:16 ago (+0/-0)

i really like the T money one

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:20:12 ago (+1/-0)

I do too, it's like video game music. I couldn't tell if he liked it or not, he originally asked for a couple of guitar solos and I did all that to it.

Some rain would be nice.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 0 points 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:01:29 ago (+0/-0)

Its pouring rain here

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 hoursMay 16, 2025 20:17:25 ago (+1/-0)

Here's something from the deep archives... It hasn't been shared in a long time. In fact, I had to upload it.

Johnny B Goode (both guitars)

That was from the very early days of the FNGT. It probably hasn't been shared since Voat was still a thing. It was a quick and easy thing to record and one of the first where I bothered doing both guitar parts.

Back then, it was just me recording at my house. I didn't add other instruments as it was still mostly guitar being shared. Maybe I'll finish it one of these days and add the other instruments.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 2 points 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 20:56:48 ago (+2/-0)

That does sound really good, is that really a 335? I suck at figuring out guitar tones.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:12:09 ago (+0/-0)

Quite likely, yes.

I have an extensive guitar collection. (You can ask @sleazy about it, as I've posted numerous pictures that I am 100% confident you won't find online except when shared by me.)

You could even call it a guitar library. It's very extensive, well into the triple digits.

I use these guitars (and associated gear) to sound as close as I can to the original. More often than not, I'm playing something very close to what the original artist played. I may also have the same amp and pedals that the original artist had.

Though, I've done a bit more cheating lately with amp profilers. They're often 'close enough' and mean I don't have to go lugging amps around and finding the various associated pedals. I've been playing with Kemper gear quite a bit for the past few years. I've done some 'blind testing' and nobody picks up on the difference. They have yet to pick it out once, other than when I've mentioned it.

Amp profiling (and pedal profiling) has come a long way.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:24:35 ago (+1/-0)

I'm not against amp modelers at all, I've just never experienced them due to never playing electric guitar. My old roommate just did a great album, he's an old tube amp guy like me. That's just what we've always used. I asked which amps he used for all these great tones on the record- not a single real amp.

The tech has really improved in the past half dozen years. It's amazing.

I'll share another song in a minute.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 hoursMay 16, 2025 20:24:58 ago (+1/-0)

hell yeah that sounds great!

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:07:05 ago (+1/-0)

It's from the deep archives. LOL

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:13:48 ago (+1/-0)

I dont remember hearing it before even if I did LoL

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:37:04 ago (+1/-0)

I don't think it was shared often - though it's from the era where we could check the archives.

It was shared a long time ago.

The file's meta data says that it's at least from 2019. I think it might be older than that.`

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 3 hoursMay 16, 2025 20:01:36 ago (+1/-0)

So I went out back to the studio to plug in my new guitar and this came out. I don't know why, but here it is

Amazing Grace

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 3 hoursMay 16, 2025 20:18:14 ago (+1/-0)

Listening now...

I think I did a vocal cover of this song at one point. COF was a bit amazed that I knew a religious song.

[ - ] mahavishnunj 1 point 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 20:58:08 ago (+1/-0)

Is this the Ibanez that looks like a Paul Gilbert shred machine?

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 0 points 2 hoursMay 16, 2025 21:01:54 ago (+0/-0)

Yes it is!

[ - ] mahavishnunj 0 points 40 minutesMay 16, 2025 23:04:55 ago (+0/-0)

Here's a creepy sounding thing that's even creepier with my cat wailing at the beginning. If i record this for real I'll get a better vocal track from her:

Pubis
