Not surprising. Recently in looking at Numbeo I noticed Memphis had an even higher crime index than Detroit. Detroit has a white male mayor and has seen recent gentrification - whereas Chicago's rep has always been overblown. Tale of two cities: homicide rate is 100 times higher in the south of the city than in the north.
